Papaha came into Russian Military from the Terskoe Cossack Host which originated in the Northern Caucasus where it defended Russian borders from the aggressive Caucasian highlanders. Papaha was banned from military during Eltsin's reign and recently was reinstated by president Putin. Papaha with red top traditionally belonged to Generals - "attaman".
